Hiya, now before I start, just know that I have no idea about washing machines so any advice, please word it so I have a fighting chance at understanding lol...

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WML940. My load finished and the door unlocked so without checking (who does?) I opened the door and my kitchen was flooded.

After staring in horror for a good long while I slammed the door shut (kinda like shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted) and tried the drain function. I could hear the hum of the pump but it wasn't actually draining anything. I've also tried other cycles to see if they worked but all are the same.

It gets worse, I googled it and someone advised undoing the black plug at the base of the front of the machine to check for blockages. Big mistake. Huge. My kitchen was flooded for a second time but this time with putrid, eggy smelling water which promptly filled the floor and started its journey into both the living room and the dining room and I couldn't get the plug done up again for some minutes. It was quite the feat of strength.

Does anyone know if this is something I can fix myself as I'm a single mom and simply don't have any spare cash for a repairman :(

Now that its empty check the hole that you took the cap off anything in there will stop it pumping out.

Well unfortunately since then my father has been up to have a look at it. He's 70 and let's just say, not as handy as he once was. He set it on another cycle so the machine is now full once again. Is there any way to drain it manually and without another flood?

Thanks for your response btw :)

Put the waste pipe in a bucket and it will drain off.
