HOTPOINT WF220 - won't spin

Hi
My washing machine will not spin as part of the normal wash cycle, it will just continue to wash.& wash & wash... It will spin however if I cancel the wash and set to spin manually. Any ideas what is causing this problem? I took the filter out and cleaned it last weekend however this hasn't cured the problem
