I have an electrical problem!

When I plug a particular floor lamp into a wall socket, it causes the mains circuit breaker to trip.

If I plug it into a different socket, then no problem.

Similarly, if I plug a different table lamp (same wattage) into the first socket, again no problem.

It is almost as if there is an incompatibility between the table lamp and its original socket.

Any ideas?

If it turns out to be a faulty lamp, I'd be more concerned about the socket that didn't trip the RCD (if that's indeed what's tripping).
