I am about to fully refurb my house and as part of this upgrade think it would be remiss of me not to consider an alarm (presumably much trickier to retrofit if I decided later).

I would probably want something simple (but effective). So...

1. What is a simple/effective spec?
- control box (hall cupboard)
- key pad (hall cupboard)
- GF door sensors x3 (front, side, bifold).
- GF IR sensors x2 (kitchen, hall)**
Anything else?
[i.e. rooms with access to other areas]

2. What is a good make/model?
- Pyronix get a lot if thumbs up on here?

3. What is s typical instal cost?
- Can my builder/electrician do the instal (house is being rewired)
- Should I use a prof alarm installer?

Thanks.

Honeywell Galaxy or Texecom. Go for a fully wired system using 8 core alarm cable. For app based control, install wired IP module and Ethernet cabling between the panel and your router location. PIR's in all downstairs rooms (dual tecs for sunrooms conservatories and garages) and any upstairs rooms where access can be gained from. Roof/balcony Etc. Minimum door contact on entry/exit door.

Thanks. Which Galaxy would be most suitable? Flex?

What would a typical professional install for the system with 3 door sensors & 5 IR be (done at 1st fix, so easy access/no make good required)?

Flex or Dimension for automation capabilities down the line. G2 series if on a budget. A professional install is going to cost you anything from £600 to £1500 depending on maintenance agreement and monitoring.

Self installing a G2-12 based system with self monitoring over IP can cost under £220 for all the parts.
