Not sure if many will agree with me but I believe property surveys are not worth the paper they are written on, unless of course there are major problems. I will be buying soon as a cash buyer and would much prefer to give an 'old school ' Builder a good bung to spend about an hour giving the property the once over. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has done this or what your views are. Thanks

Yes and no.
Unfortunately house surveys are a detailed cut n paste document, with so many conditions included theres no chance of claiming against the surveyor.
They do however apply a methodical approach which is unlikely to happen

Structural surveys might be worth it but general surveys as pretty useless, although they might pick up asbestos if it's there .
