Hi

Were looking at a house this weekend and noticed what suspiciously looks like a crack running below the bedroom window towards the floor - is it of concern?

I have come across this before but turns it its been a power supply cable but I think this look more like a crack.

The outside wall looks to be covered with wooden shuttering so its not obvious if the outer wall is cracked.

Thanks

Not uncommon. If the windows below have been replaced, the section of wall and window above will be temporarily propped until the new window goes in.
This often creates a tiny bit of movement which results in cracks such as this when the new window settles in.
If it's the back, could be patio doors etc, same diff.

If the building has cavity walls and the outer leaf has cracked through the brick, it might require remedial work. If the exterior has been covered with cladding and the interior with wallpaper, one might assume that the owner has attempted to hide a fault. Personally, I'd just ask them about it.

Thanks for your replies. I read about a 5mm rule - if the crack is 5mm or less its a fill and decorate, if its more than 5mm its concerning.
