Hi, we bought our house a few years ago and the bottom lock on the back garden gate was always a little tight but over time has got to the stage where i can only close it to the point where it’s just barely in the hole but is very tight, to the point where if I do try to close it and try and reopen it, it’s so tight that i need something to knock it to get it back out.

The top lock is fine, but I was wondering what i can do about the bottom one, would i need to set the lock and part the lock goes into a little higher or is there something i can do to try and just move the hole part so that they align a bit better?

I'd rather not have to move them both up or down but if that’s the only real way then i guess will do that.

Heres a pic of it:

It's not a lock, it's a bolt.

Your gate has sagged due to gravity

Move the staple down a bit and re-screw it.

Also, please show a photo of the whole gate, and the hinges.

Gate is timber so moves/warps with weather , just drop the keep on the lower bolt a few mm, couldn’t be easier .

it is normally a wet weather scenario that, top of the fence gets a bit longer in wet weather tilting the gate a bit downwards as per the picture. Hot dry summer weather causes the top rails to shrink and bolts miss at the top.
(bottom of fence has less chance of movement as posts have less movement near the ground)
