Be a welcoming committee waiting for him in his new home. Most of his time will be spent in solitary confinement and the hospital. Mostly the hospital.

I know it's not the hospital's fault.

But the nurses witnessed some of the bloke's behaviour.

They should have phoned the police and got a protection order for the kid.

You're all missing a key point. No longer does our legal system consider first and foremost the victim and their family. It considers the perpetrator, what led them to do this, and what is the minimum custodial sentence they can be handed to ensure they're back in the community as quickly as possible to live their life.
