Hi
Can I just check I am on the right track.
This is the shower unit.

I removed the central spindle but I think that was the wrong way to go.

I cannot get the chrome surround off and therefore cannot get the backing plate off.
Maybe it just needs WD40 and some persuasion..?

My assumption is that, once the plate is off I can unscrew the valve and then find a replacement
Something like this!

It would be helpful to know whether I am going the right way, ideally before I break something.
Thank you!

S

Get some limescale remover on it and a good clean up.
Those shrouds usually just unscrew from a thread around the cartridge, some are just friction fit with an o ring to stop water getting behind the plate.
Once removed, you can get a spanner on the valve, else you can do it with a box spanner of the correct size without removing the shroud.
