hello
i have a steady drip from my overflow pipe which is coming from my old water storage tank in the loft, i have read many forums that advise on changing the ball/float etc but my question is simply how do i get into the cold water storage tank - there i no lid it appears to be completely sealed,is this normal?! there is a copper pipe (central heating expansion pipe i beleive) that goes into the top which would stop me lifting the lid even if there was one.

i am a have a go lady diyer but plumbing is a little beyond me, but can't really afford to pay a plumber if its something i could sort myself - any help offered would be gratefully appreciated

Make sure you look for the lid on the top of the cistern, it is unlikely to be on the side or bottom

thanks Kev feeling like a bit of a dumb blonde now. managed to get lid of and the water level is actually quite a bit higher then the float, played with the arm a bit and the constant drip seems to have reduced somewhat so hopefully excess water should continue to drain away - not sure if thats a washer or something, but hopefully man from B&Q can adise tomorrow.

thanks again
Louise

The ball valve needs replacing.

A fairly simple DIY job but if you try it then do remember to turn off the water supply first! ( Dumb blond advice! )
