When we moved into our house, we found moths infesting a carpet. Mostly under cupboards, beds etc.
The larva stage would eat the carpet, then when they were ready to turn, they'd drag their little cocoons up the walls, or to the underside of cupboards etc and change into moths.
I suspect the fact that insulation was poor led to a bit more dampness than you would normally get.
We threw out the carpet, improved the insulation, problem solved.
