How do I repair this?

I know nothing about DIY so please don’t worry about over explaining, the more info the better.

We moved a shed and noticed an old light that was previously there is hanging off. It’s been like this for a while and I haven’t seen it work in the 20 years we’ve been here. What materials do I need to fix it and is it something I could do myself? Many thanks.

First question, where is the cable?
Has it been disconnected or do you have a random live cable buried in the wall/hanging loose.

Some sharp sand, cement, and a handful of pea shingle will cover the hole and patch it up.

What are you trying to fix; the light or the hole it left behind?

Fill the hole with repair mortar and leave level withe underside of the dash. Apply gravel the size and colouring of the existing and fling at the mortar before it dries. It will eventually cover the bare patch.

Or buy a new light with a base that covers the hole/patch and retire connector. Seal the edges of the base plate to prevent water ingress. If it’s too big to cover use some external ply and fix to that.

Or contact the local handyman

Hi the cable is still attached to the light but seems to come out a different hole. I don’t know what’s the best thing, whether to fix the hole and stick it back on or get someone to remove the light (I’m not confident with electrics and repair both holes.

@robinbanks Sorry I don’t know how to multi quote but I think the light is not fixable. So more a cosmetic thing and preventing a creature living moving in.

Remove the light and bin it, disconnect the other end of the wire, fill the hole with expanding foam, cut it flush when it sets and flick mortar then pebbles over it
