how many lives?

hi guys - just moved house and recently changed a light fitting in my bedroom, 1st floor, but was dumb founded to find three lives coming into the rose. we have, as far as i can see, an unconnected smoke alarm (alarming...i know) and a shower on the same floor. so why so many lives? we're also looking to replace the bathroom and i want spots, five in total...if any one can give advice on the wiring of said spots i would be most grateful... if anyone can give me the cheapest price for those spots i'll be most grateful indeed...

two? i think... pos three - i managed to squeeze everything into the new housing. why?

every thing works fine four 50w spots on a dimmer as well [all though i'm not a dimmer fan]

When you say 3 lives, do you mean 3 red wires ? Check out the for reference section on here, and you'll find that's all tickety-boo....

Don't wish to be unkind, but you are almost certainly going to need to use an electrician for the work in the bathroom, so saving a few quid on the actual lights will be irrelevant.....
