how much hedge can i take out without planning permission?

i ve got a doggy old hedge round my garden on the edge of a main road and i was wondering how much of it can i take out with out planning permission and replace it with a lap board fence? and how high can i go with the fence?

Unless it’s a listed building, your in a conservation area, an area of natural beuty or the hedge has a preservation order ont it (unlikely) & as long as it’s you hedge you can do what you like with it. Max fence height is 2m but in the case where there is vehicular access & the fence is situated within 2m of the highway it’s restricted to 1m; this is usually where it would affect visibility when emerging from a driveway or side road. It always pays to ring your local council & check individual circumstances.
