Hi Everyone. I have a similar situation where help is appreciated. I'm having to replace one of two mains powered smoke alarms (both installed at build in 2000). The wiring of the old system is: Red, Black and White. My reading online from USA sites suggests the following: White to Neutral, Black to Live and Red wire to Interconnect (linking it with the second alarm). Is this correct? If not what is the correct sequence for the old existing alarm wiring. Thanks

It depends on what type of alarms these are, and what colours were used by whoever installed them.
USA wiring is unrelated to anything in the UK, and guessing is a sure road to destroying things.
Smoke alarms have a 10 year lifespan, so anything installed in 2000 should have been replaced long ago.

If you are trained person then you can do this work of your own. Because it is a risky task. A little mistake can cause real damage. In my opinion you should hire a professionally trained person for replacing mains smoke alarm.
