How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

You still need to understand why your usage is so imho.

Underfloor heating in the bathroom(s) ?
We got a meross smart stat for our bedroom and can now control this. I've ended up putting a cheap timer on the immersion so it only comes on for a total of a couple of hours a day. The tank is tiny so we have to replenish more. Lat 24 hours we've only used 90 kWh which is an improvement. The next thing is to get Scottish Power to sort out a smart meter, they are so poor it's unbelievable, different advice on every call. That deserves its own thread perhaps?
I'm hoping I'll be able to manage usage as I get more control over different elements in the house, there is no bathroom underfloor heating. BTW, found out we've got pitch fibre drains which brings a whole new other world of pain & £££.

Move to a smarter supplier, Octopus is much better!
I'm going to. They actually advised me to switch to smart meter with current supplier then switch when ready. Their lead time for fitting is 8 weeks so going to have to wait is out with SP

90 kWh is still a huge amount given what you have stated

You need to identify what is using this up

Yep. Process of elimination is what I'm trying to do. The new meross stat shows that I'm using up to 25 kWh heating our bedroom alone per day. I'm sure I'll get it down to 75;)

Turn the heating off so you get a baseline usage ?

If it wasn't so cold I would. I think I sort of have to muddle through until I get onto a smart meter then manipulate the EV tariff to reduce the cost

Bet you have an old sleeping bag in the loft. Put that round/over the cylinder!

Picked up a clamp meter yesterday to do just that. It’s been a complicated process so far but think we’re getting there.

As it happens I'm having to use the immersion on 24/7 at the moment, plus some fan heaters, plus the usual WM, Freezers etc. Total in the low 20 kWh/day.
The Imm htr has the usual stat inside, water abouut 50-55°C.
