hi,

I need to cap off a couple of 15mm copper heating pipes. They are running over a joist that has been notched but I only have access from underneath as the ceiling boards are down. I can't get a cutter around these. Any suggestions on how I cut these?

Multitool, dremel, grinder.
How are you capping them?
Cut them near to the next joist then you can bend them slightly downwards which will help you with soldered or compression cap: best to avoid a pushfit here if they are underfloor!

25mm hole saw - up through the diameter of each pipe, then, once disconnected, bend down to do a clean cut with a pipe cutter

I don't have a dremmell. Can I use a hack saw?
why not a hep 20 cap? It's under the floor boards and I've used plastic pipe and fittings all over the place.

You can use what ever you want, providing you have access to use the tool, whether it multi-tool, hacksaw, pipe cutter, pipe splicer etc.. That is why I asked for a picture. It maybe if you are capping the pipe off that it can be cut at a more accessible location.

It is always wise to use soldered fittings in location where access will be hidden/restricted/unattainable etc.. once joint is completed.

If you can get at it with a hacksaw then that's ok but if you're going to use a pushfit cap then you will need to fully de-burr the cut end. Personally I'd use a solder fitting in this situation.

Solder fitting in this case, Tight space with timber and debris around nah.
Asking opp to burn the house down.

This is where the difference between DIYer & self-employed tradesman exists...

As a DIYer: you can do anything you want or think suitable and if it fails at a later date you will curse a bit and redo it, including all other gaining access and making good work necessary.

As tradesmen: We have to do things properly, otherwise should it fail, you will demand we return, years down the line, to access/repair and make good, at our cost. You will tell all and sundry what a bodger your last plumber was and you'll never use us again or recommend us to others!

I have pushfit stopends in a couple of places in my own home but would not leave them as a permanent fixture in anybody else's!

Not just a response for the OP of this thread, I hope all budding diyers reading this can understand why the contributing tradesmen on this forum often take the stance we do!
