How to determine the size of a MCB?

Do your cable calculations.

In > Ib

Where Ib is the design current
and
In is the nominal setting of the protective device

This is the first step of the process. You shouldnt be messing about with MCBs if you dont understand this very basic principle.

OR...

Look at the front of it. If it says for example B32 it is a 32A B-type MCB.

i'm not talking about designing a MCB into a system - merely looking at the breaker in the box. The mcb in question doesn't show any relevant size detail.

Do you mean it has rubbed off? Can you upload a pic? Some of them I have seen have it stamped into the end of the lever.

There - it's happened again. Mr Invisible, that's me! :D

Thank you all for your replies and helpful information. I didn't mean to blank anybody but i was trying to do several things at once - thanks again.
