How to fit HepVo here

Hi,

I have noticed that we are getting bad smells through our ensuite shower drain, which I have noticed doesnt have any kind of trap fitted and is plumbed straight to the soil stack. We do have a durgo valve but given the way the shower drain is plumbed, the stack is not airtight, hence the durgo valve is also not functioning as needed. I would like to install a HepVo valve as they have worked great elsewhere for me but the bend and space looks tight. I'd really appreciate any guidance on how I could fit in this space.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure the white bit isn't a trap? Can you take a wider photo?

I think this is the trap here but I dont think its working for some reason. I don't believe it is retaining the water seal even though the shower gets used very regularly.

Yes, it is, there should be a removable part accessed from above, is that in place?

yep all fully intact, i've also replaced the durgo valve a few times.

yeah, I'd think so too. any harm in fitting a hepvo anyway?

The tube and cover that goes into the top of the trap would usually sit in a removal catch cup with a McAlpine shower trap, that cup retains the water and the tube then sits in that cup creating the seal. If that cup is missing then it won't work either.

Adding in a HEPvO trap into that run could slow the outflow from the shower and trap and then through the waste pipe, meaning the shower may not drain as effectively. Avoid adding anything else if possible.
