Hey

This window exterior is not looking good. If anyone can guide me it would be great, I have a reasonable amount of diy skills but I am not expert.

I could strip down that vertical panel with a heat gun, and fill all the wood there, or put wood hardener or both.

But I wouldn't know how to replace that piece of wood - I have no idea how to remove it for a start and all the flashings are in the way - I wouldn't want to snap the flashings either.

So my preference would be to strip it back and fill it. Is that enough ? Or is there an easy way to remove it ?

As for the join between the flashings and wood - is that caulked ? Or filled with wood filler ? It's quite a wide gap.

After that, sand, prime, + 3 tops coats.

The painted flashings around the sill are not looking pretty, but following another thread it seems the best things is not to repaint them - perhaps just leave them ?

Any guidance would be great.

Cheers

is any of it actually rotten? as it looks like there's about 50 years worth of paint thats cracked.
you can use a resin repair kit that will fill large holes etc,do a search on it on the web.

Ok, I will do that.

How about filling the space between the flashings and the wood ? It's about 1.5cm wide ? Can I put wood filler in there ?

( doh, I guess I can use the resin to fill that area too)
