I opened the door of my kitchen cupboard the other day and it literally came off in my hand. Not sure exactly what happened, but the end result is that the MDF has completely split where the hinges screw in. Pictures:

I don't particularly want to replace the cupboard, and it doesn't seem practical to move the hinges, so is there anything I can fill in those holes with that I could then screw into again? I have done a search of the internet and have seen a number of suggestions including car bodywork filler and a mix of sawdust and wood glue. What would people recommend?

Thanks in advance

As BA suggests or car body filler make a strong repair, the boiler is too close as the door meets it the leverage created against the hinge mount is substantial.

Foxy is suggesting that as the door opens it touches the corner of the boiler, if that happens it will create a lever effect on the door and the hinges (or the chipboard they're screwed into) will not be able to cope hence the door failure.

But the photo could be deceiving and that scenario may not occur.

Ah I see. Yes, the photo is deceiving, there is about a 1cm gap between them and the door doesn't touch it as it opens.
