I've just repainted all the gloss-work in a our front room and the dry colour of the paint does not really match the color guide on the tin and is far too strong and doesn't complement the recently painted walls.
I can't afford to buy a different colour and repaint it all.
I was originally after an antique gold effect but couldn't source that colour so settled on a soft mustard which turned out to be very green (almost lime green).
What sort of techniques are there to knock back the colour? I really need to darken the colour and bring it inline with the rest of the room. I was thinking I could try dry brushing a bronze (or burned umber) over the top - but I not sure of the technique or whether that would work.
thanks
