Hi All,

So I plan on fitting a new exterior door frame and door. After plenty of reading I get the general idea.
One thing i am still unsure of is how best to finish up around the frame. I plan to fill gap with foam. Is it normal practice just to fit architrave around to hide this?

Thanks, Richard.

If the gap is about 8mm or smaller you can just seal it (masking taping both the frame and wall will give a good finish).
If your sealing to a rendered or plastered wall just tape the frame and use a good quality external grade caulk, Paint and remove the tape for a perfect painted edge.

*Sealent should cover the frame by 3-4mm so tape slightly away from the edge*

Any larger will require trims, If the door is PVC try to get the trims from the same company as the door as different makes come in different shades of white.

Its a timber door and the gap will be larger.
I assume then some timber trim, like the stuff you find in most big DIY sheds?
