Hi. The outside if my house is part red bricks, part rendering. The red bricks are not painted. We have had the front garden taken out and a drive built instead so the red bricks could do with sprucing up.

I am not keen in painting them with red masonry paint as it would kind of look shiny.

A while ago I heard about red washing the brick with a mix of sand and something else and I remember it also involved a rag. Can somebody please advise?

Thanks

Might be better to sand them back a mm or so and repoint.

Painting brick should be a last resort. Have you tried a patch with a masonry stone cleaner and a light jet wash?
