This is my gas meter cupboard.... front and sides in not too bad condition. Don’t fancy messing with those bits. But the top is knackered. What do you suggest? Light sanding then coat with what?

Well, looks like it will need heavy sanding to bring back original wood, then you'll have to find a similar stain (looks walnut) and then coat the lot with satin or gloss varnish.
Might have to bite the bullet and get sanding.
