I've got this heavy duty floor in my kitchen and wanted to replace it with a regular vinyl floor. Can someone please advise on the most effective removal technique and also whether it is likely to leave a decent surface for me to lay down a vinyl floor on?

Thanks in advance.

If it is proper altro flooring and it's glued all the way that's going to be tough to remove. It's difficult to cut with an ordinary utility blade and there could be bits of adhesive left on whatever is underneath, if this is the case you may be able to use self levelling screed.

You can hire a tile remover (smaller ones look like a large orbital sander with a blade on the front) which speeds up the job. It can be done using a multitool and scraper blade, but it will rake forever that way (useful for tidying up edges and corners, however).

You are spot on about the adhesive residue being left - that may need to be sealed and levelled before fitting anything else

You could lay F-Ball Isolator membrane over the Altro and lay the sheet vinyl directly over this.
