How to renovate this door

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on improving the finish on an internal wooden door.

The surface is quite rough in places and has some small raised spots or bubbles. The finish doesn't look very flat or even, especially around the mouldings and panel details. It looks like it has quite a thick layer of paint, and the texture is uneven (photos attached).

I’d like to repaint it and get a much smoother result — ideally something closer to a sprayed finish, even if I’m using a brush or roller.

Could anyone advise:
- What could be causing the bubbling or roughness?
- Do I need to strip it back completely, or can I just sand it?
- How should I approach the mouldings and detailed parts?
- Any tips on tools, products or techniques to get a smooth finish?

Thanks!

I don't normally appreciate that well worn tongue in cheek from Koolpc, but in this case I do think it's reasonable; an eBay search for "internal door" brings back many new, far more aesthetically pleasing examples for around 50 quid. I wouldn't bother renovating it

Image 1, it looks like someone used woodchip paper in the panels.
