Our Honeywell ST9400C 7 day 2 channel programmer http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/honeywell-st9400c-7-day-two-channel-programmer/ and a thermostat were both fitted on the wall right next to our Vaillant Ecotec 630 boiler.

We have been advised to move the thermostat to a better location, and someone's suggested a wireless thermostat as the easiest option.

My question is - do we have to buy a like-for-like replacement - e.g. Honeywell Y6630D http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/honeywell-y6630d1007-wireless-analogue-room-thermostat---hc60-set/ or can we buy a programmable 7 day thermostat e.g. Honeywell CM927 http://www.honeywelluk.com/products/Systems/Wireless/CM927/? Does this thermostat also control the hot water? Are there any advantages to having this one, seeing as we already have the Honeywell programmer ST9400C?

Many thanks

Buy the Honeywell CM927 it does much more than the combination of ST9400C and Y6630D.

You will have to retain the ST9400C to control HW times.

Doesnt that mean that I've overpaid for my programmer as I will be left with the ST9400C doing nothing more than turning on/off the HW and CH?

Yes it does - in fact it will only be needed to control the HW. However, you should get a much improved control of your heating.
