How's the weather where you are today?

Very good skiing. Zell am See was nice at Christmas but the quality of the slopes doesn't come close. The new fellas were spoilt today with stunning pistes and incredible weather.
Gonna change tomorrow though....:sneaky:
Last time I went skiing was over 30 years ago. Me, the wife, our 2 year old son, my mate, his wife and their 4 year old and 2 year old. Went to Soll in Austria in January '88. Idea was for the wives and kids to play in the snow in the village in the mornings while me and my mate went skiing and then all meet up in the afternoon and do something else. Turned out to be really warm - 23°! No snow. On day two, my son came out in a rash and had the squits. Whatever it was my wife caught it within hours and I had to get a doctor out in the middle of the night for the pair of them which wasn’t cheap. Next day, the wife had had enough and wanted to go home. My wife’s mate sided with her and wanted to go too so we spent a bloody fortune on day 4 of a 7 day holiday getting taxis to Munich and seven flights home. We've never been able to persuade the wive’s to go again! :(

In my area, bluntly a "Damp Squib"

OK loads of sea, waves over a meter high, Rail link at Saltcoats stopped, no ferries, but? nothing extraordinary?? have seen much, much worse, as I live on the promenade, this was not at all remarkable??

What I was interested in was when driving back from Glasgow on the Johnston By-pass, as I passed the Airport the car temperature reading was 9 degrees, I hit a torrential rain storm, the temperature dropped to 3 degrees? wipers on full, 25 MPH max!!!

Not seen that for a while?

I went to Copper mountain Colorado my mates I was with went skiing. I took one look knew I'd injure myself so went for a Subway. Closest I ever got...

Beautiful day here on southern coast, the energy was immense. Spent a bit of time this afternoon in the study watching a tanker head to the horizon in a very rough sea like the furious 50's.

The towns of Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd were badly hit today.

Mytholmroyd was still undergoing repairs and improvements from the serious flooding of a few years ago. For most of the time since the last flood its main road has been partially closed due to these works. Today it all got washed out again.

For those who don't know these towns; they are in West Yorkshire, situated in a valley with very steep sides. They are nice little towns and the valley is quite spectacular. The town centres, with all the shops, mains roads and pubs etc are all right at the bottom of the valley, and flooding is inevitable; it has happened for years in fact. Despite this, people are blaming Boris Johnson, Tory cuts and Brexit! How stupid to make political capital out of a tragic situation.

A bit of video from Todmorden:

They are not too far from me, just over a hill or two.
All in valleys, the drainage is gonna be bad and yes this happens on a regular basis.
Several roads near me were also flooded despite us having a new multi million pound drain system putting in a few years ago.

Got up this morning and the winds had died down. Got off fairly lightly with just a broken garden ornament or two and a snapped fence post.
Then the leccy went off! Discovered it may be off for a couple of hours so decided to go out for lunch and a walk around the shops. It was bitterly cold but bracing in the fresh air. Checked on how the power outage was going and heard it should be back on by 4.00pm. Picked son up from college at 4.15, arrived home 4.45 and guess what. No power.
Wife and I were not too bothered but when you have an autistic child who cannot cope when things break down it can be quite traumatic for them. Called the DNO who said it MAY be back on within the hour. It wasn't and son begins to get agitated.
Called again and my wife spoke to a "lovely gentleman", (her words), who tried his best to find a definitive time when it would be restored. Knowing the situation regarding our son he also went above the call of duty and looked up any local pubs/hotels to ask if they could help in any way as my son is also double incontinent and needs to shower frequently. The nearest one willing to help was about 6 miles away and even offered us a big discounted offer of dinner for the 3 of us. He told us the power would be restored by 8.30pm but we could still take up the offer of the hotel. My wife contacted the hotel and thanked them for their offer but said we would try to wait it out to see if the power returned at the said time. Manageress said even if it did we could still take up her offer. We will pop in tomorrow and thank her personally as the power came back on at 8.15pm

So there are still some good people out there willing to go the extra mile for others.

It seems that my Boss's house - only a couple of miles away from me was 3' under water.

Don't want this to sound flippant, it's not meant to be at all, I've lived in rural areas, which personally I love, power supply is an occasional issue, have you considered getting a backup generator?

We have Ed, in fact my wife used to have one when she lived down the road before we met, but when she sold her house and moved to a town she sold the genny with the house thinking she would never need it again.
Now we are in rented property back in the countryside we have never bothered. Mat be worth looking at again though.

Leamington, Warwickshire - just been past a big tree trying to be extracted from the first floor of a house round the corner. Looks like it’s taken out at least the bottom meter of tiles and battens. Can see exposed rafters and exposed loose bricks, not good!
