htg and hot water prob

daughter having probs with her system she is unable to get hw without having the heating on, reckons its been like this since she moved in
potterton wm blr i think and modern equiv of the old mini minder prog
any ideas please

If its a heat only boiler with a hot water cylinder then it sounds like a faulty motorised valve!
