Huge crack in wall - builders fault?

I just returned home from work to find a large (new) crack running wall to ceiling that the builders renovating the property look to be now repairing. Should i be worried?

The wall is a partition wall between entrance hallway and lounge, the crack looks pretty big to me:

There were problems this week with the ceiling in that room, when they started stripping off the wallpaper on the ceiling large chunks of lath and plaster came down with it. They decided to screw plaster board into the ceiling joists... could these ceiling issues have caused the crack?

I'm just annoyed no one called to tell me about this crack appearing. Should they have?

The whole post sounds dodgy to me.

The OP has an old property with ancient ceilings with cracks everywhere. Sneeze - and a crack will appear.

It sounds to me as if the builders so much as strip wall paper off they will have caused some damage and the OP is ready to pounce. Builders beware - run a mile!

I might be wrong though....?

I don't think I would be too worried at this point. The builders will not want to keep bothering you every time a minor issue appears.

Unless they have been doing something structural below the level of the cracks I don't think they can be blamed for it.

Yes i read about that poor couple earlier in the week, probably why I've got a panic on!

Well it turns out the wall that cracked – according to my builder – was a load bearing masonry wall after all, it's this wall highlighted in this photo that i presume supports the floor above:

Apparently the wall is a load bearing wall for roughly the length of that old radiator (now removed), then becomes a stud wall created by previous owners as they remodelled the space to open up the lounge/diner/hallway.

My builder insists it was just the plaster that blew and not the brick wall:
