I have a Potterton Combi boiler (Puma 80e).

It was serviced a few weeks ago, and has been humming ever since!
Works fine, but just humms all day and all night, it drives me mad, to the point i now turn it off and only turn it on when i need to use the water!

Any idea's how i can stop the buzz?!!!!!

Its definately the 80e, yes?

The pernament pilot version's fan runs on a very low speed IIRC to remove the POC from the pilot light.

There's a sticker and manuel for the 80e, so i'm assuming that's what it is.

I'm a girl!!!!!!! In english please?!!!!

'if its an 80e the e means electronic' - thanks!

no pilot light - the pilot light is lit, when i turn the boiler on and re-set, but it just perminantly humms and annoys me, so i turn it off! Trying to stop the hum

so no fan running at slow speed - so do i need to get the fan running at a higher speed - if so how do i do this?

Lots of pipes and valves under the boiler
1) gas inlet
2) DOM HW(hot water) outlet
3) Mains water inlet
4) Central Heating Flow
5) Central Heating Return
6) Safety Valve

Before the service it was not in that condition. After the service it was.
As kevplumb as advised, tell the service bod to put it right

It sounds like an electronics problem to me - possibly the mains transformer on the pcb [printed circuit board]. Could still be a slight vibration on the casework somewhere, though.

Bear in mind, that if there is a problem which started just after a service, it is not necessarily the serviceman's fault - but you should still ask him to come back.

POC = products of combustion = flue gas

Thanks for all the advice!

I'm guessing that, as the humm is only very quiet, and is audible as soon as you turn the boiler on, and does off immediately when you turn it off at the mains, it's something I'm going have to learn to live with, much like some lights, a fridge and an oven will make a noise when they are in use.

I rent my house and I know that the LL will not get a service man out for a boiler that works perfectly and it's just me that doesn't happen to like the humm.

If there was a quick fix (e.g adding/removing air into the system, bleeding radiators etc..) i'd have tried it.

Thanks again, i'll turn off when not needed when the humm gets too annoying!

I do not want to frighten you, but lets just think about this ;-
before the service there was no noise.
after the service there was a buzzing noise
I do'nt know what it is, but it should not be happening. Lets just imagine this sevice operative removed the combustion chamber, then did not fit it properly, ie not sealed, in that scenario it is quite possible that the noise/resonance could be caused by poc (for your benefit odourless colourless lethal gas) escaping past the seal into the living quarters. It probably is not, but then again it possibly could be.
Demand that your landlord gets the man back to check it

Not left any battery operated toys on top of the boiler ? Durracel bunny perhaps ?????

GET THE MAN BACK TO IT AND STOP FAFFING ON HERE, IT'S A GAS APPLIANCE.
