I purchased the Hyundai unit about 18 months ago - used it last during the big storms in January and having tried to start it recently, the recoil failed to re-wind! I have replaced this as its not covered under the warranty as its a "serviceable" item only covered for 12 months. On trying again to start it up, I now have fuel coming out of the exhaust port when trying to start up. Has the carburettor failed now or is something else likely to have gone?

Any help appreciated!

No need to splash out on any new parts just yet......!
Take the spark plug out, invert the engine and pull it over until no more fuel gets expelled through the plug hole.
Then try for a start up - maybe without choke first.
Consider how you store the unit, carburettor downwards if possible.

Do what John says plus gently tap the bowl in case the float has stuck.

Gents - thank you for your input. I had ordered a replacement carburettor which I’ve now fitted and unit has started up first time of asking.
I had already taken the plug out and turned engine over until no fuel expelled. Suspect diagnosis of float sticking is correct and looks like I now have a spare carburettor to play with lol

Thanks for reporting back, it’s appreciated!
I’m increasingly using only Aspen fuel or equivalent, and certainly not E10! Certain fuel systems just don’t like it at all.

Shell Advance petrol doesnt cause problems if youre on a budget.

Ive got three hyundai units and find generic parts from ebay/amazon fit and work just fine.
Was disappointed overall with the price/quality ratio, and the warranty doesnt seem worth the extra cost over the competition.
Bought. the last brushcutter from SGS -very good quality for the money.
