Hi all.
I'm having problems loosening the packing nut on a bath tap. The cold one was fine, but there's a lot of gunk around the hot and it simply won't budge.
I'm not going to use my adjustable spanner anymore as the nut is wearing down with every pull.

Should I use WD40? Can anyone suggest a method of loosening it?

Thanks. :(

Thanks for replying.

I'm using an adjustable spanner with the screwy thing on it (spot the professional!).

I've tried with all my might, but the outside of the nut has started to wear down the more force I've applied.

Any suggestions?

Absolute sod when this happens...use either the correct size box spanner or a deep drive 1/2" socket with a ratchet wrench. WD40 does help to soften the sealant thats been used, but it does take a while.
There was the one dreadful occasion when I had to grind the tap away....
