Hi all,

Just ordered some new I-joists for an attic floor and on the drawing a section is shown into the external walls with a note;

Proprietary End Seal push fitted to end of BCI Joist. Do not nail.

The end seal would be these;

Does anyone know if these are necessary? I was just going to wrap the end in DPC like with a traditional joist?

Thanks,

I think those are just the seals to stop air infiltration from the cavity and, if so, a waste of time IMO.
If the wall is a cavity wall, why even bother wrapping the ends in dpc?

Thanks Tony.

As a follow up question, how do I go about building I-Joists into a solid wall? With solid timber I can make sure it is tight and they point in around the top and sides. With an I-Beam there is only limited 'sides'?

Cheers,

Screw some vertical timber strips on each side of the web at end, to bring out the thickness of the web to the same as the projection of the top and bottom flanges.

Sounds like an easy enough solution. Thanks Tony.
