Hi,

i am sistering up some of the joists in a ceiling there is a section with some noggins in poor condition that I want to replace. This section is below a disused chimney stack (the breast was removed but the stack on the roof remains).

The is a pic below. I had thought of buying new, full length joists and sistering the partial joists that stop at the cross noggin. I am not 100% sure what they would be sitting on top of at the wall end, though (where the chimney breast used to be).

Can anyone advise if this would be the recommended approach? Or would it be better to just remove and replace the existing noggin structure that is in place (with the noggins screwed in crossways and secured to the next joist along?

Sorry for the confusing explanation. Hopefully the picture makes sense!
