Hi, I added around 25 percent water to try to get a mist coat to soak in to a newly skimmed ceiling.

But it's just sitting on the surface, I think will peel off at some point.

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe I should use a layer of sbr first?

Thanks

Should it be only 25 percent paint and 75 percent water?

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't use bathroom paint for mist coat, you should use "normal" emulsion, then overcoat with bathroom paint

Do the instructions on the tin recommend thinning for new plaster?

What does it say on the tin? Personally I would dilute some matt emulsion.

I've always used new plaster paint on fresh plaster.

Dulux paint with the dog on has thixotropic agent for DIY market and should not be thinned. Read data sheet online or read back of paint container.
