I decided to buy a sat-nav system cos i`m a bit of an explorer & i`m useless with a map! anyway I managed to set it up & figure out how to use it and I decided to challenge it in the little side streets of Balby, so I deliberately took a wrong turn & it gave me another route, up a one-way street the wrong way! Not very impressed so i`ve had a nose around the Garmin website for map updates & saw something about map unlocking, anyone tell me what this is? and my i3 was provided with the City Select Europe V7 map & I noticed that a deluxe version is available, so does this mean that I have the basic map that shows most roads but not all roads?

But I suppose I can`t expect much for £200 can I? & why a female voice that us blokes have trouble taking notice of! ;)

The problem is not the device but the reliance on third party map data, most satnav manufacturers licence the maps from map specialists and mistakes do creep in, watching that documentary the other night showed up the A-Z for making mistakes and ommisions albeit some deliberate.
On a previous satnav i came across several errors and although the program allowed me to edit some data the map errors i was not allowed to edit, on asking the manufacturer it was explained that the maps are copyright and only those authorised could make changes, therefore all one can do is point out the errors and hope later versions are corrected the manufacturers do give inform of errors.
This is one of those products that relies heavily on user information and feedback.
Have you found the sites for Safety Camera updates? these rely on drivers finding new ones as they crop up.
Not 100% sure with your device but the map unlocking sounds like after purchasing a new map you go to the site to get an unlock code for it, with my satnav you type the map code that comes with the map(sd card?) along with your device code and the site will generate an activation code for you to type into your device. As for the voice can you not change it? apart from the standard ones i've also got a few celebrity ones installed on mine.

Sounds like you`ve got a tom tom, mines the Garmin i3 & i`ve updated the o.s and I downloaded some speed camera POI`s from pocketgps.co.uk oh and the mappings by navteq loaded on a transflash card, i`m starting to realise that it ain`t that good at all, it has a fiddly scroll wheel that takes ages to enter the destination with, a unchangeable voice and when I enter a house no. I can only enter numbers & not a number & letter combined, overall not very happy with it.

The 'on-line' RAC route finding, with final map magnified, has been quite accurate with regard to 'one-way' streets .... Or was I just lucky? Where do they source their mappings?
