Hey guys

My private rented home has a newish Ideal Atlantic boiler, the wall thermostat does not work, there is only 1 radiator thermostat so i just use the boiler manually. Recently it has started going into standby with the code 00. It used to do this once in a while, now it does it every day, the water still heats ok and the heating goes off, if i turn the heating up to max on the boiler it fires up. If i leave it set at say 55 nothing happens and the heating is off. It is possible that the boiler is still under warranty. Any ideas what is causing the problem, there is an old wall thermostat which may be causing the problem?

Not a heating enineer but I think that code as you call it just means the boiler is standing by ready for a call for heating or hot water. When you run the hot tap does it change to DHW or similar and CH when the heatining is on. If so then the boiler appears to be working properly and the room stat being faulty is the most likely cause. If you intend to replace it yourself make sure your new one is hard wired and compatable with the boiler.

Yep, as above, it's in standby waiting for a demand. As the thermostat isn't working, it's reliant on the boilers flow temperature.

Hi mate thanks for your reply. Yes the hot water and heating seems to be working ok. The boiler is set to always on and not on timer mode. I just turn it up and down manually to suit how i feel. The wall thermostat has always been faulty for the last 18 months and since i moved in. The boiler was always on, the burner would boost on and off and the boiler was always on, never on standby.

If i set it to 55 on the boiler, it goes into standby and does not heat and the burner is not active, the house will go cold when its on standby. It may well be the thermostat but its only recently it started doing this.

Perhaps the thermostat is working then and it’s at temperature or the hysteresis has kicked in causing large temperature swings. Maybe replace the thermostat initially?
