Does anybody know what causes the whistling on an ideal classic 40ff when the boiler is running, it doesn't matter whether the boiler is hot or cold it always whistles. Any ideas?

Quite common on these. Over gassed.

Probably needs a new main burner injector if burner pressure found to be ok.

Job for an RGI though.

gas 4 you, when you say over gassed do you mean incorrect burner pressure or is it a faulty part like the gas valve or the injector? If the injector is the problem why do they wear or is it that they were too big from day 1.

gas 2 air, the case seals are all in good condition and seem to be doing their job.

Thanks for the replies.

Could be the BP is too great, but BP could be spot and and will still whistle.

Burner injectos somehow wear bigger with the friction of the gas going through them.

Don't ask me how, I only know that they do. I've had several classics that have given the symptons you describe.
