Ideas for lighting

Hi All

My long drawn project has atlast taken anticipated shape. My two room extension has got to a stage where I need ideas for wiring lighting circuits. I had favoured mains down lights as well as lights those could be dimmed. Upstairs is a 8ftx10ft bedroom for my 20 year old son.

Downstairs is an extended dining/lounge 8ftx10ft room. I understand down lights are a problem. I was hoping to go for mains type not needing a transformer. Can someone please give me ideas how the layout should be.
