Identify insulation in old hot water heater (In USA) (Ed.)

Can anyone tell what insulation this might b its found in an old hot water heater. It’s an old square water heater looks like a dishwasher it’s a red spot is what it’s called thanks in advance

looks like vermiculite

Yep +1 for vermiculite - you see it all the time in DFE gas fires

Be aware that some sources of vermiculite contained traces of asbestos, but not sure if this applies in the US
