Identifying a cable route

I'm considering panelling over a section of a wall which has a surface cable run at present. I will be fitting a line of accent LEDs in the panelling.

Would you consider these 12V accessories in a line would identify a 'safe route' for the mains cable that will be concealed behind them, or should I re-run it in steel conduit or similar?

IMO not if the cable is nothing to do with the light circuit.

But if the LED's are located directly above the cable then you would assume there is a cable there and hold off on the drilling

What if the LEDs are ever taken out and the cable below remains????

EDIT:Yeah I know - you'll be able to see the cable through the holes left by the LEDs
