I have read other faults posted on this and other sites but my problem appears unique. Dishwasher starts, water comes in and it shuts down leaving dirty water in bottom before wash cycle. Lights 4 and 5 stay illuminated together.
The machine has been dormant/out of use for about 6 months. Now back in use, no problems for two weeks and then this fault.
Any suggestions. :?:

LED's 4 & 5 lit are not an error code. But it sounds like you may have a drain issue.
Post the service number on the door sticker, should look something close to this 854585615610.

Try to run a test program to pull up an error code: Open the door & switch it on, press the program button 4 times within 3 seconds. If successful the first LED will be permanently lit & the fifth LED flashes. If you have that close the door & see what develops. At some point before the test program ends the machine should stop & display an error code on the program LED's. Note what it is & post it here. To get out of test mode & reset the machine; switch off, switch on, press the program button 4 times within 3 secs, then switch it off again.

Zipper,

Tried the test program with door shut and open. Not able to carry it out as nothing happens when I press the button three times as suggested. Eventually after it has tried to run a cycle, washer stops, water still in bottom and both lights 4 and 5 flash.
I have today took the side off, the capacitor where the 240v supply comes into the machine has popped. The sides have cracked and it appears it may have overheated.
I have sourced a replacement capacitor from Maplins, they provided a 0.5uf 440v stating it will be suitable (despite the original part being 0.1uf 250v.)
I plan to fit this later but I wonder is it likely the capacitor has blown and caused the problems with the machine or is it more likely that another component i.e. pump/motor is faulty and has caused damage to the capacitor?
It appears from stickers inside the machine that it was built in 2003.
Cheers...

It was press program button 4 times within 3 seconds...not the other way around.
Regardless; you can easily rule out the suppressor by simply bypassing it. It is only a interference filter so for testing purposes you could temporarily jumper it out. Usually when a suppressor pops it takes out a fuse or trips the rcd depending which way it fails. But if it shorts out it can damage your pcb. Try it out of circuit (or mount the replacement) & see if that helps, I kind of doubt it but you never know. It is very unlikely another component has caused damage to the suppressor. LED's 4 & 5 flashing is not a valid error code.

Cheers pal,

My son has fitted the replacement and same as before, on programme start, the unit begins to empty. A short while later shuts off leaving water in machine. He has tried connecting the hot water supply to the machine, in case of a thermostat/water heating problem, but no change. Is there any checks we can do with probable faulty parts or is this likely to be a PCB problem?

Back to basics; Are the filters clean & the waste hose/sink spigot clear?
Fill hot water a couple of cm over the filter plate & start a cycle. Does the water get pumped out? Does it fill & rinse? After the rinse does it pump out, refill then stop? Or does not even get as far as rinse? As mentioned earlier the flashing LED's you are seeing are not a valid error code & if you are unable to enter the service program using the procedure a couple of posts up then yes your pcb is suspect.
