My iMac has the the latest up to date OS which can be installed thanks to Apple not allowing any further updates. the OS is OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5.
Apple in their wisdom will not allow any further upgrades and the ageing iMac is stuck in this unacceptable time warp. I have issues with the iMac interface to Gmail but I have adapted to the problems it causes. My present problem relates to PDF files my bank sends me via On-Line Banking, but my 'Steam Driven' Mac refuses to open the PDF files. The same files can be opened on my mobile banking app, so there is no problem with my banking software.
I have searched for a solution via GOOGLE and various solutions are suggested one of which is restarting my iMac in 'Safe Mode'. There then follows a pile of gobbledegook which is totally unintelligible to me and to be honest scares the living daylights out of me, referring to uploaded application software software which will probably be deleted. If ever I carry out what I would call 'Advances Problem Solutions', all other sorts of problems are introduced such as access to important features and all sorts of other unforeseen issues, so I am reluctant to attempt that as a solution.
Has anyone 'Smart Arse' out there got any ideas for a solution.
If you reply, please bare in mind you are replying to a 'PC Numpty', so please treat me gently.
