Images not showing again

I have a post with some images in it, and when I view it it looks like this:

But when I edit it the middle image looks fine:

This is the BBCode with the image URL highlighted:

View image info in the post display shows this:

But when editing the post, this is the data for the image (right-click show info doesn't work in the edit):

It is not ebassist.com which is introducing weserv.nl - the site is doing it, here's the page source:

Why is the site doing this, and breaking links?

The end image is not a valid image. It gives 404 error not found as the end URL is incorrect presumably.

Without the weserv.nl bit:

http://www.ebassist.com/forum/images/smilies/rofl.gif

The https://images.weserv.nl/ part is used to serve non HTTPS images over HTTPS i.e. a proxy to maintain the HTTPS integrity of the page.

It is a valid image, and the URL is not incorrect

Without the weserv.nl bit:

Without the weserv bit that URL works.

The https://images.weserv.nl/ part is used to serve non HTTPS images over HTTPS i.e. a proxy to maintain the HTTPS integrity of the page.

So it is the weserv functionality which is broken. It's weserv which is reporting a 404, but the URL it's trying to get does work.

The URL is incorrect and reporting 404 for me locally and I've just retried with a random test website:

Seems I've been wasting everyone's time. I hope there aren't too many calories in humble pie, as I'm supposed to be losing weight.

All along the http://www.ebassist.com/forum/images/smilies/rofl.gif has worked for me. Reason? It used to work for the whole world, and the image was in my cache. Now the image no longer exists: http://www.ebassist.com/forum/images/smilies/

As soon as I clicked reload on http://www.ebassist.com/forum/images/smilies/rofl.gif I started getting 404.
