Hi All

I had to change my element in the Immersion heater last night as this had burnt out and also burnt the jacket around the element.
Changing it not a problem what concerns me is the fact that it is wired in to a neon switch not fused with 2.5m twin and earth this then goes back to the CU on a 30a fuse. I think the switched should be fused and by my maths the fuse is way to high. Airing cupboard has a nice burnt smell :(

You immersion should be on a 15 or 20amp radial from the fuseboard.
This also means it doesn't need to be fused down anymore.

What else is on that 30amp fuse?

Nothing now but there was a cable going to a socket in the loft which had a bathroom element heater plug in

Get an electrician to change that 30 for a 15 then.
30amp fuse on a 2.5 = overloading
