Hi i have emptied my immersion tank as i am away for along time, but have just realised the economy 7 is still on. The thermostat is a year old, connected to a fcu and a trip switch.
Will it trip or is there a possibility it could smoulder and catch alight.

Thanks

turn off the FCU......

Otherwise it will overheat and should trip out, but if your not going to be there, turn it all off

Hi thanks for the quick responce but i am afraid there is 500 miles between me and the tank!!!.

Thanks

If you havnt had a call from the fire/police, then I reckon its tripped off.(Thats what its designed to do )

What here we are in this wonderful technological age and you cant do it from your laptop, not suprised ,my super duper Win7 machine which is suppossed to save me so much time and money cant bloody print a simple word document without a problem  and they reckon modern boilers are sshite, the wern't unitl pcb's got stuck in them.

I think you mean you have emptied the hot water cylinder, is that right?

What did you do to empty it? If you just turned the hot tap on, the cylinder will still be full of water. The hot tap draws water from the top of the tank, you can only drain it empty through the bottom. Most cylinders do not have a drain cock to enable this.

How old is your immersion heater? (the electical heater that goes into the cylinder, not the cylinder itself)

The cylinder is a year old, the thermostat likewise.

To empty the tank i turned off the water at the mains.

Then i opened the drain valve and all the taps.

The house is now dry.

You really went to all this trouble to drain the entire plumbing system of water because you are away for a long time yet you never switched the electric of at the mains in case of a possible fault?

Strange seeing as it's April now!

Have you informed your House Insurer of your period away, most insurance policies are INVALID in the case of prolonged un-occupancy, without notifying them
