I have an immersion heater, and use it to heat my hot water in the cylinder. It has stoppe dheating the water up, so I tested the thermostat for co ntinuity with the stat turned up and there was no BEEP. So I now want to test the immersion heater itself, but cannot remember the Ohms I should be looking for, it is a 3KW heater, top entry. The fuse to the heater is good by the way. Also, when replacing (if the heater is at fault after testing) - is PTFE tape good to use round the heater threads or just the fibre washer and any compound? I don't want a leak if I can helpt it.

Thanks for your help.

Element resistance should be approx 19.2ohms. (assuming 3kW element)

Just use the fibre washer
