What could be making an immersion heater trip when turned on at the switched fuse spur? It immediately trips on the main board. Thanks

What trips ,RCD, MCB, RCBO ?
Either a fault on the wiring,switch,or immersion element itself.

If you don't have any electrical test instruments, such as a multimeter, and knowledge of how to use it,then yes call an electrician

I can use a multi meter. I can test for resistance etc. What would I need.go test on the immersion?

Turn off Electric supply .
Remove the round cap from top of immersion.
Identify the live and neutral terminals of the immersion element and measure the resistance between them.
Should be around 19 ohms on a 3 kwatt element.
Also check between live terminal and earth terminal for a short circuit.
